The method the Carbon Neutral Expedition is going carbon neutral is by using a wide variety of different alternative fuels combined with carbon credits to account for places where we are not carbon neutral on our own. Our technique to quantify how how carbon neutral is basically by figuring out what our approximate carbon output is, and then buying a whole lot more than that because carbon credits are cheap. We spent about $50 from CarbonFund.org to completely offset our carbon footprint for the trip which may have as many as 3 full gasoline SUVs and each of the alternative-fueled vehicles may produce as much as 20% of their carbon footprint if they were powered by traditional gasoline or diesel. So we are actually technically carbon-negative for this trip.
